Position Overview: We are in search of a proficient General Surgeon with a focus on Surgical Oncology, particularly in hepatobiliary surgery and other oncologic surgical procedures. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in both general and oncologic surgical practices, addressing cancers related to the liver, bile ducts, pancreas, and other prevalent carcinomas such as colorectal, gastric, and esophageal cancers. This position demands a dedication to holistic cancer care, teamwork with multidisciplinary groups, and active participation in clinical and educational advancements in the field of surgical oncology.

Key Responsibilities:

Surgical Expertise:

  • Execute a diverse array of general surgical operations, including appendectomies, hernia repairs, cholecystectomies, and various elective or urgent surgeries.
  • Specialize in oncologic interventions for hepatobiliary malignancies, encompassing liver resections, bile duct surgeries, and pancreatic procedures.
  • Oversee management of other prevalent surgical carcinomas, such as colorectal resections, gastric surgeries, and interventions for esophageal cancer.
  • Formulate and execute tailored surgical strategies for patients, integrating both general and specialized oncologic methodologies.

Patient Care:

  • Conduct comprehensive pre-operative assessments, including patient histories, physical examinations, imaging evaluations, and diagnostic tests for a variety of carcinomas.
  • Deliver expert post-operative management, addressing complications, ensuring optimal recovery, and providing patient education regarding cancer treatments and preventive measures.
  • Collaborate with oncologists, gastroenterologists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated and comprehensive care for patients with diverse cancers.

Team Collaboration and Communication:

  • Engage with a multidisciplinary team, including medical and radiation oncologists, gastroenterologists, radiologists, pathologists, and nursing personnel, to guarantee integrated and effective patient care.
  • Effectively communicate with patients and their families about diagnoses, treatment options, surgical procedures, and anticipated outcomes.

Clinical and Educational Contributions:

  • Participate in research and clinical trials focusing on various carcinomas, including hepatobiliary and general surgical malignancies, to enhance surgical techniques and improve patient outcomes.
  • Contribute to the education and mentorship of surgical residents and medical students, and engage in educational initiatives, seminars, and scholarly publications.

Job Details:

  • Schedule: Full-time, standard business hours
  • Call Schedule: 7 days per month
  • Credentialing: Bon Secours Mercy Health
  • Average Patient Load: 30 patients per clinic day
  • Patient Demographics: 80% Adult, 20% Geriatric
  • Oncology Fellowship Required
  • Board Eligible or Board Certified in General Surgery
  • Residency Training in General Surgery
