Key Responsibilities of a Program Specialist in Residential Services
  • Conducts annual assessments to identify individual outcomes, needs, preferences, and capabilities, ensuring clear communication throughout the assessment process.
  • Identifies community support needs and collaborates with the individual's informal support network to establish connections with relevant agencies.
  • Facilitates the development of friendships and family ties by teaching essential skills and creating opportunities that leverage individual strengths.
  • Ensures all team members are informed about upcoming Individual Support Plan (ISP) meetings.
  • Assists individuals in recognizing advocacy issues by gathering and analyzing relevant information.
  • Explores vocational and educational interests, aiding individuals in preparing for job or school entry, and supporting career advancement opportunities.
  • Implements and monitors individualized plans, reporting on progress towards specific outcomes based on individual preferences and interests.
  • Educates individuals, colleagues, and community members about the individualized plans while upholding confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Actively participates in reviewing individual outcomes, maintaining accurate records, and submitting necessary documentation promptly.
  • Communicates findings and recommendations clearly to individuals, ensuring follow-up and reevaluation as needed.
  • Acts as a liaison for the Supports Coordinator, coordinating meetings and communicating necessary plan adjustments.
  • Collects and evaluates data from monthly and quarterly reports, providing feedback to team members through various communication methods.
Expectations for a Program Specialist in Residential Services
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational abilities with the capacity to manage a diverse caseload.
  • Ability to engage effectively with a variety of individuals in different environments.
  • Demonstrated patience and adaptability.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and other Windows-based applications.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Special Education, or a related field with at least 2 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities (preferred).
  • Associate's Degree in Psychology, Special Education, or a related field, or a minimum of 60 college credits combined with 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Valid driver's license, personal vehicle, and insurance are required.
