Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Police Officer to join our team at the City of Chesapeake. As a Police Officer, you will be responsible for maintaining law and order, protecting life and property, and upholding the law in our community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct routine patrols in residential and business areas to maintain a visible presence and deter crime.
  • Respond to emergency calls and incidents, and take appropriate action to resolve the situation.
  • Investigate crimes and gather evidence to bring perpetrators to justice.
  • Provide information and assistance to the public, and refer them to other city or state agencies as needed.
  • Enforce traffic laws and regulations, and investigate traffic accidents.
  • Issue citations and warnings to individuals who violate traffic laws.
  • Testify in court as a witness or expert witness.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Successful completion of the Chesapeake Police Academy or another acceptable police academy.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to pass a background check and polygraph test.
