Discover Meaningful Work:


Oversees a small team of technical support personnel within a specific information technology domain such as Desktop Services, Network Communications, etc.

Delivers technological solutions in a collaborative cross-functional setting. Responsible for supervisory functions essential for staff development and the deployment of technical solutions that align with business needs.

Our PPD Laboratory Services team significantly impacts patient health through the expertise of scientists, industry leaders, and therapeutic specialists.

The IT Director oversees systems development and/or IT operations personnel in delivering IT services to designated business functions or locations.

This role is accountable for providing senior IT leadership for a functional area across multiple sites.

The objective of this position is to ensure that the IT needs for their assigned business functions or locations are met efficiently and effectively by all involved IT personnel.

Leads the functional area through subordinate directors and/or managers.

Recruits, develops, and manages staff.


Collaborates with business functions and/or locations to ensure IT priorities align with business objectives and that commitments are fulfilled on schedule and within budget.


Guides IT teams, operational management, and cross-functional teams to maintain a high standard of service and adherence to internal controls and procedures.

Consults with business functions and/or locations regarding information technology requests, services, and capabilities.

Advises on the potential implications of current and future regulations on organizational operations.

Coordinates IT involvement in Business Development, sponsor, or regulatory audits, ensuring accurate and timely responses.


Manages vendor relationships and contracts to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and business requirements at optimal pricing and quality standards.

Develops and oversees departmental expense and capital budgets, ensuring appropriate business approvals are secured for projects.

Keys to Success:
Education

Bachelor's degree or equivalent and relevant formal academic/vocational qualification.

Experience

Prior experience that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job (comparable to 12+ years).

5+ years of management responsibility.

Strong leadership capabilities.


In certain cases, an equivalency consisting of a combination of relevant education, training, and/or directly related experience may be deemed sufficient for an individual to meet the role's requirements.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Minimum of 10 years of experience in IT Operations or Systems Development.

Minimum of 5 years of project management experience or a similar leadership role.

Minimum of 6 years of experience managing technical staff.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in an IT business liaison role, collaborating with senior business managers.

Familiarity with systems utilized at PPD is considered advantageous.

Client-focused approach with strong interpersonal skills.

Ability to multitask and maintain attention to detail.

Management Role:
Directs through lower management levels. Responsible for managing a function that encompasses multiple related departments.

In some instances, may oversee a functional area (as determined by executive management) without subordinate supervisors or employees.

May manage personnel across various regions.

Working Conditions and Environment:
Work is conducted in an office setting with exposure to electrical office equipment.

Occasional travel to site locations, frequent domestic and international travel.

Interaction with clients/associates is required.

Long varied hours may be necessary occasionally.

Physical Requirements:
Frequently stationary for 6-8 hours per day.


Repetitive hand movements with the ability to perform quick, simple, repeated motions of the fingers, hands, and wrists.

Moderate mobility is required.

Occasional crouching, stooping, bending, and twisting of the upper body and neck.


Light to moderate lifting and carrying (or otherwise moving) objects including luggage and a laptop computer with a maximum lift of 15-20 lbs.

Ability to access and utilize various computer software developed both in-house and off-the-shelf.


Ability to communicate complex information and ideas clearly; with the ability to listen to and comprehend information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

Frequently interacts with others, conveying sensitive information to diverse groups both internally and externally.

Ability to apply abstract principles to resolve complex conceptual issues. Requires multiple periods of intense concentration.


Performs a wide range of complex tasks as dictated by variable demands and changing conditions with little predictability regarding occurrence.

Ability to perform under stress. Ability to multitask.

Regular and consistent attendance is expected.
