Reports to: Field Supervisor

Position Summary: Under minimal supervision, this role involves executing maintenance duties on facilities and grounds associated with the Utilities Department. The position requires the operation of various vehicles, tools, and equipment while adhering to all safety standards and protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the upkeep and sanitation of Water Reclamation Plant machinery, conduct preventive maintenance, and identify mechanical issues and maintenance requirements; proficiently operate specialized tools, trucks, and machinery in accordance with safety regulations and municipal procedures.
  • Support plant personnel as necessary and acquire new maintenance competencies; implement appropriate safety measures in all tasks performed; report issues and emergency situations; identify, avoid, and report unsafe practices, conditions, accidents, and injuries.
  • Contribute to the operational efficiency of the division through consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Foster a positive relationship between the City of Odessa and the public by exhibiting courteous and cooperative behavior during interactions with visitors and City staff; maintain confidentiality regarding work-related matters and City information; perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or GED is preferred. A minimum of one year of general maintenance experience is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Knowledge:

  • Understanding of safety regulations, occupational hazards, and precautionary measures in public utilities.

Skills:

  • Proficient in the safe and effective operation and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow standard operating and safety protocols, as well as verbal and written instructions.
  • Capability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.

Work Environment: The role involves working both indoors and outdoors at City facilities; exposure to safety hazards and hazardous tools and equipment is possible; adherence to safety precautions is essential, including the use of safety gear. City-approved safety footwear is mandatory.

Licensing Requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is required.
