Reports to: Field Supervisor

Position Summary: Under general supervision, this role involves performing maintenance duties on facilities and grounds associated with the Utilities Department. The position requires the operation of various vehicles, tools, and equipment while adhering to all safety standards and operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the upkeep and sanitation of Water Reclamation Plant machinery, execute preventive maintenance activities, and identify mechanical issues and maintenance requirements; operate specialized tools, trucks, and machinery in compliance with safety regulations.
  • Support plant personnel as necessary and acquire new maintenance skills; implement appropriate safety measures in all tasks; report issues and emergencies; recognize and report unsafe conditions and incidents.
  • Contribute to the divisional functions through consistent and punctual attendance.
  • Foster a positive relationship between the City of Odessa and the public by exhibiting courteous and cooperative behavior when engaging with visitors and City personnel; maintain confidentiality regarding work-related matters and City information; perform additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience: A High School Diploma or GED is preferred. One year of general maintenance experience is highly desirable but not mandatory.

Knowledge Required:

  • Understanding of safety protocols, occupational hazards, and safety measures in public utilities.

Skills Required:

  • Proficient in the safe and effective operation and maintenance of tools, vehicles, and equipment.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures and safety guidelines, as well as verbal and written instructions.
  • Capable of establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues.

Work Environment: Duties are performed in various settings, including indoor and outdoor locations at City facilities; exposure to safety risks and hazardous tools and equipment is possible; adherence to safety precautions, including the use of safety gear, is essential. Approved safety footwear is required.

Licensing Requirements: A valid Texas State Driver's License is mandatory.
