Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Registration Specialist to join our team at Waterbury Hospital. As a key member of our registration department, you will play a critical role in ensuring the smooth and efficient registration process for our patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information to ensure accurate billing and registration.
  • Collect and process patient payments, including estimated balances and financial assistance programs.
  • Obtain signatures and insurance cards from patients to complete admission records.
  • Provide patients with information regarding the verification of insurance and authorization for services.
  • Perform intake tasks, including phone calls, scheduling orders, faxes, and walk-in patients.
  • Prioritize workload and make efficient use of time to accomplish assignments and expected outputs.
  • Maintain working relationships with a multi-skilled team environment to facilitate department and hospital goals.
  • Provide coverage as needed in various areas of registration and participate in the training of co-workers.
  • Demonstrate ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing situations.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and ability to use PC, electronic modality, and business equipment.
  • Strong customer service skills and ability to communicate effectively with patients, staff, and visitors.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment, time management skills, and follow procedures when setting priorities and handling stressful situations.
  • Clerical and mathematical skills, with ability to maintain confidential patient financial and medical information.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of hospital billing, third-party collection requirements, and Credit & Collection policies.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and ability to work in a business office environment.
  • Physical requirements involve some lifting, walking, pushing, pulling, bending, and standing.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to access internet and other programs applicable to Waterbury Hospital procedures.
  • High School graduate or equivalent, with at least two years of experience in a hospital, physician's office, or other medical setting.
