Position: Facility Operations Coordinator (Part-Time)

Department: Parks & Recreation

Employment Status: Part-Time

FLSA Status: Hourly

Experience Required: None

Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma/GED

Direct Supervisor: Deputy Director of Parks & Recreation

Primary Work Location: Various Elementary and Middle Schools

Physical Requirements: This role involves operational tasks requiring the ability to exert up to and beyond 50 pounds of force occasionally, with frequent or constant minimal force to move objects. The employee is often required to walk and stand, sometimes on uneven surfaces, and may occasionally need to climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

Qualifications: Valid Driver's License

Job Summary

The Facility Operations Coordinator is responsible for overseeing various functions and supervision of facilities for the Rockingham County Parks and Recreation Department. Work is conducted under the general oversight of full-time Parks and Recreation staff. The position primarily requires availability during evenings and weekends, typically from 6 PM to 9 PM Monday through Thursday and/or Saturday from 8 AM to 1 PM, as needed.

Essential Job Functions

The individual in this role may be tasked with the following essential duties:

  • Unlocking facilities for scheduled activities and ensuring secure closure post-activities.
  • Supervising the facility to guarantee the safety of both instructors and participants.
  • Being physically present on-site during scheduled events.
  • Conducting safety checks of the facility before and after classes or programs, which may include tasks such as sweeping floors, setting up rooms, and checking doors.
  • Providing customer service by welcoming instructors and participants.
  • Distributing information such as class rosters, evaluations, waivers, and promotional materials as needed.
  • Collecting data as requested by the Parks and Recreation Department.
  • Ensuring participant and facility safety through routine checks and effective communication.
  • Attending departmental meetings as required.
  • Keeping Parks and Recreation staff informed of any issues or concerns raised by participants, parents, or school personnel.
  • Offering technical assistance to patrons.

Knowledge

A foundational understanding of Parks and Recreation activities and facility operations is essential. Familiarity with First Aid and necessary safety precautions in recreational work is beneficial.

Skills

Possesses a strong customer service orientation and the ability to communicate respectfully and effectively. A clear understanding of safety protocols and facility inspections is crucial.

Abilities

Demonstrates consistent attendance and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, officials, and the public. Capable of articulating ideas and instructions clearly, both verbally and in writing.
