Job Summary

This position is located in the Bureau of Land Management, Division of Operations. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing safety programs to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees, volunteers, and the public.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement safety policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and national consensus standards.
  • Conduct safety inspections and investigations to identify and mitigate hazards, and provide guidance to management and employees on safety best practices.
  • Develop and conduct safety training programs to educate employees on safety procedures and protocols.
  • Collaborate with management and employees to identify and address safety concerns and develop solutions to prevent accidents and injuries.
  • Develop and maintain safety records and reports, including accident investigations and incident reports.
Requirements
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • May be required to complete background investigation and drug screening.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Must provide resume and supporting documents.
  • You cannot hold an active real estate license, nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Lands.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver's license.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 10 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • May be subject to 24-hour call back.
Qualifications
  • GS-07: One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service, performing duties such as assisting in safety and health inspections, preparing reports of findings, and providing informal safety and health training.
  • GS-09: One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, performing duties such as applying safety and occupational health methods, leading and/or participating in after-action incident reviews, and conducting surveys to identify and evaluate hazardous work operations and conditions.
  • GS-11: One full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service, performing duties such as advising and supporting management, developing safety and occupational health standards, and organizing, leading, and/or participating in accident investigations.
Education
  • GS-07: Successful completion of at least one full year of graduate level education, including major study in safety or occupational health fields, or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
  • GS-09: Successful completion of a master's or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, including major study in safety or occupational health fields, or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
  • GS-11: Successful completion of 3 years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree, or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or LL.M., including major study in safety or occupational health fields, or degree in other related fields that included or was supplemented by at least 24 semester hours of study from among the following disciplines: safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene, occupational medicine, toxicology, public health, mathematics, physics, chemistry, biological sciences, engineering, and industrial psychology.
Additional Information
  • This position is considered a career ladder opportunity, with a full performance level of GS-11. If selected at a lower grade level, you may be non-competitively promoted to the next grade level at the discretion of your supervisor and is contingent upon meeting regulatory and legal requirements for promotion, satisfactory performance, and the availability of higher-level work.
  • The Bureau of Land Management has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
