Key Responsibilities:
1. Development of Safety Programs:
Work collaboratively with various teams to design and implement thorough safety programs, policies, and procedures that address the unique needs and challenges faced in the industry.
Regularly review and update safety protocols to ensure they align with evolving regulatory standards, industry best practices, and emerging risks.
Ensure that safety initiatives are in sync with corporate objectives, promoting a culture of safety awareness and accountability across all organizational levels.
2. Risk Assessment and Management:
Identify potential safety risks and evaluate associated hazards in all operational activities, including drilling, production, transportation, and maintenance.
Formulate risk management strategies and control measures to reduce exposure to occupational hazards, environmental threats, and safety incidents.
Provide expert guidance on the selection and application of engineering controls, personal protective equipment (PPE), and other safety measures to address identified risks.
3. Regulatory Compliance Oversight:
Stay informed about regulatory changes and industry trends to ensure adherence to safety regulations, codes, and standards relevant to the sector.
Conduct regular audits, inspections, and assessments to confirm compliance with safety requirements and pinpoint areas for enhancement.
Engage with regulatory bodies, industry organizations, and stakeholders to maintain a proactive stance on safety compliance and advocacy.
4. Training and Development:
Create and deliver comprehensive safety training programs, workshops, and seminars for employees, contractors, and third-party service providers.
Encourage a culture of continuous learning and professional growth by providing resources and opportunities for skill enhancement in safety-related areas.
Assess the effectiveness of training initiatives through evaluations, feedback, and performance metrics to drive ongoing improvements in safety outcomes.
5. Incident Investigation and Reporting:
Lead investigations into safety incidents, near misses, and accidents to determine root causes, contributing factors, and corrective actions to prevent future occurrences.
Prepare detailed incident reports and recommendations for management review and regulatory compliance.
Facilitate lessons learned sessions and share findings with stakeholders to enhance organizational learning and prevent future incidents.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related field; advanced degrees or professional certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, CHMM) are preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in safety management, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance within the industry.
Proven expertise in interpreting and applying safety regulations, standards, and guidelines, including OSHA, EPA, DOT, and API requirements.
A demonstrated history of developing and implementing effective safety programs and initiatives in complex industrial settings.
Strong analytical capabilities with the ability to assess and mitigate a wide range of occupational hazards and operational risks.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the capacity to influence and engage stakeholders at all organizational levels.
Proficiency in conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective action planning.
Familiarity with industry-specific technologies, processes, and equipment utilized in upstream, midstream, and downstream operations.
Willingness to travel to various operational sites and work in challenging environments as necessary.
