Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Medical Assistant/Patient Services Assistant to join our team at the Greater Baltimore Medical Center Healthcare. As a Medical Assistant/Patient Services Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing direct patient care and support to our patients and healthcare team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians in providing direct patient care and evaluation of patients in an office setting.
  • Perform routine diagnostic tests, administer medications, and take vital signs.
  • Prepare patients for exams, record EKGs, and maintain examination schedules.
  • Evaluate patients for preventive or other care, such as immunizations, eye exams, and pain management.
  • Respond to patient questions, assist with dressing and undressing, and provide chaperone services as needed.
  • Review diagnostic results, report abnormal results to physicians, and maintain cleanliness and order of exam rooms.
  • Receives and screens visitors and telephone calls, responds to general inquiries, and provides customer service to patients.
  • Schedule patient appointments, perform pre-registration duties, and collect co-payments.
  • Prepare daily deposit forms, escort patients to rooms, and ensure completeness of physician charge sheets.
  • Verify patient insurance information, ensure appropriate CPT and ICD9 codes, and secure necessary signatures.
  • Code lab requisitions, schedule diagnostic tests and therapeutic procedures, and notify patients of scheduled tests and procedures.
  • Perform related office duties, including photocopying, retrieving and storing supplies, and faxing patient progress notes.
  • Compile patient statistics, maintain patient tracking systems, and perform simple arithmetic calculations.
  • Manage and update lists of accepted insurances, send lists to on-campus physician practices, and perform other clerical-related duties.
Requirements
  • High School or GED
  • 3 years' experience as a medical assistant or successful completion of GBMA externship program
  • National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant may be substituted for years of experience
  • 6 months of related clerical/administrative experience
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, phlebotomy, EKG, specimen collection, medication administration, and vital signs
  • Ability to distinguish normal from abnormal diagnostic results, pass a medication calculation test, and perform non-complex arithmetic calculations
  • Ability to organize and maintain files and records, manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and work in a medical office environment
  • Certificate of training from a nationally recognized Medical Assistant program, Heart Saver (CPR) Certification, and National Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant preferred
Work Environment

The Medical Assistant/Patient Services Assistant will work in a medical office environment, exposed to disinfectant, detergent solutions, and human specimens.
