Quality Assurance Supervisor in Food Safety

JOB SUMMARY

The position entails overseeing the execution of food safety and quality assurance (FSQA) initiatives and evaluation programs, as well as conducting inspection and audit procedures to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory standards within a Sysco specialty meat and/or seafood operation. The individual will also support FSQA activities related to supplier approval, product sourcing, sanitation, and regulatory compliance.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manage the deployment of food safety and quality assurance (FSQA) initiatives, including hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) protocols, sanitation procedures, pest management, good manufacturing practices, supplier approval processes, foreign material control, plant sanitation, chemical management, product quality assurance, FSQA customer feedback, and food security measures. Supervise or assist in training employees on FSQA policies and procedures. Oversee or support recall and traceability programs, including conducting mock recalls. Direct the execution of independent FSQA audit programs, including safe quality food (SQF) audits. Provide assistance as needed for product evaluations, plant inspections, and communication with suppliers/customers to support team members. Offer support during emergencies as determined necessary by the plant president or general manager. Regularly interact with personnel from Sysco specialty meat and seafood divisions, operations, sales, transportation, maintenance, and supplier/customer representatives at the operational level.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

1-5 years of experience in the meat and/or seafood industry. FSQA experience in a federal CFIA/FDA meat and/or seafood processing facility. Formal training in total quality management (TQM), standard procedure call (SPC), and HACCP principles is advantageous. Training in quality and sensory analysis is beneficial. Experience in the raw meat or seafood industry may be considered in lieu of combined experience.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Valid driver's license. Safe quality food (SQF) practitioner or equivalent global food safety initiative (GFSI) experience. HACCP certification in meat and/or seafood as applicable.

Professional Skills

Proficient in using personal computers, laboratory equipment, food preparation tools, and office communication devices.

Language Skills

Capable of writing reports and basic business correspondence, as well as effectively presenting information and responding to inquiries from management.

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to perform basic arithmetic operations and interpret various forms of data.

Reasoning Skills

Ability to identify problems, gather data, and establish facts. Competence in interpreting a wide range of technical instructions.

Plant audits and inspections may necessitate lifting products and working in a production environment.
