JOB SUMMARY

This position oversees the execution of food safety and quality assurance (FSQA) programs and inspection/audit protocols to ensure adherence to corporate and regulatory standards within a Sysco specialty meat and/or seafood division. The role also involves supporting FSQA initiatives related to supplier approval, product sourcing, and regulatory interactions.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Implement and manage FSQA programs, including hazard analysis and critical control point (HACCP) protocols, sanitation procedures, pest management, good manufacturing practices, and supplier approval processes.
  • Facilitate employee training on FSQA policies and procedures.
  • Oversee recall and traceability initiatives, including conducting mock recalls.
  • Direct the execution of independent FSQA audits, particularly safe quality food (SQF) audits.
  • Assist with product evaluations, supplier communications, and plant visits as necessary.
  • Provide support during emergencies as determined by management.
  • Collaborate with various personnel, including operations, sales, and maintenance teams, as well as supplier and customer representatives.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience

  • 1-5 years of experience in the meat and/or seafood industry.
  • Experience in FSQA within a federal CFIA/FDA meat and/or seafood processing facility.
  • Knowledge of total quality management (TQM) principles, standard procedure calls (SPC), and HACCP concepts is advantageous.
  • Training in quality and sensory analysis is beneficial.
  • Experience in the raw meat or seafood sector may substitute for combined experience.

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

  • Valid driver's license.
  • Safe quality food (SQF) practitioner certification or equivalent experience in global food safety initiatives.
  • HACCP certification specific to meat and/or seafood.

Professional Skills

  • Proficient in using personal computers and laboratory equipment.

Language Skills

  • Ability to compose reports and business correspondence, and effectively present information.

Mathematical Skills

  • Competence in basic arithmetic operations and the ability to interpret various data formats.

Reasoning Skills

  • Capability to identify problems, gather data, and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to understand complex technical instructions.

Physical Demand

The physical requirements of this role include regular communication, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift up to 100 pounds. Vision capabilities necessary for sensory analysis and safety are also essential.

Work Environment

The work environment may involve exposure to various conditions, including mechanical parts and potential hazards. Noise levels can vary from moderate to loud, and employees may encounter fumes and airborne particles.
