Job Overview

This role operates autonomously under the guidance of the Public Works Supervisor. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong leadership skills, effectively guiding, training, and inspiring team members while prioritizing safety, respect, and resource optimization. Responsibilities encompass, but are not limited to:

Key Responsibilities:

  • Overseeing all aspects of Water and Wastewater services
  • Installation, maintenance, and reading of meters
  • Reviewing and approving infrastructure construction projects
  • Conducting street repairs, mowing, facilities management, and equipment maintenance
  • Building and maintaining positive relationships with the public, colleagues, and City Officials through exceptional customer service and communication skills via various channels
  • Staying informed about municipal laws, policies, codes, and regulations
  • Following both oral and written instructions accurately
  • Participating in On Call Rotation as scheduled
  • Performing additional tasks as assigned

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to see and hear at normal levels, with or without assistive devices.
  • Capability to demonstrate manual dexterity, strength, and proficiency for equipment maintenance tasks.
  • Ability to stand and walk for prolonged periods.
  • Capacity to crouch, stoop, kneel, and crawl as needed.
  • Ability to twist the upper body while working in confined spaces.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds over a distance of at least 10 feet.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access roofs and other elevated areas.

Social Skills:

Proficient in interacting positively with individuals from diverse social and economic backgrounds to deliver outstanding customer service.

Must be able to pass a drug screening and physical examination upon hire and as required by policy.

Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.

Environmental Conditions:

This position involves a high level of outdoor activity, although some sedentary tasks may be included.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED is mandatory
  • Associate or Bachelor Degree is preferred
  • Double Class C Distribution license (Water/Wastewater) is preferred
  • Basic proficiency in computer applications (Microsoft Office Suite)
  • Bilingual candidates are preferred but not required
  • Preference will be given to candidates with GIS experience, a CDL Driver License, backhoe operation experience, and familiarity with Infrastructure Plan Review and Construction
