Job Summary

The City of Johnson City is seeking a highly skilled Water/Wastewater Operations Manager to oversee the operation and maintenance of its water and wastewater treatment plants. This is a critical role that requires a strong background in water and wastewater treatment, as well as excellent leadership and management skills.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plant Operations: Direct the operation of water and wastewater treatment plants, including the management of personnel, equipment, and resources.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Ensure that all operations are in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, including those related to water and wastewater treatment.
  • Staff Management: Supervise and manage a team of operators, maintenance personnel, and other staff members to ensure that all tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.
  • Capital Projects: Oversee the planning, design, and implementation of capital projects related to water and wastewater treatment, including upgrades and expansions.
  • Emergency Response: Develop and implement emergency response plans to ensure that the city's water and wastewater systems are protected in the event of an emergency.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and development opportunities for staff members to ensure that they have the skills and knowledge needed to perform their jobs effectively.
  • Budgeting and Financial Management: Develop and manage budgets for water and wastewater operations, including capital projects and personnel costs.
Requirements
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, civil engineering, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in water and wastewater treatment operations, including supervisory experience.
  • Skills: Strong leadership and management skills, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Certifications: Certification as a Water Treatment Plant Operator or Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator, or the ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
