Position Overview:

The Senior Analyst, Market Risk Evaluation is tasked with scrutinizing financial and credit/collateral risks linked to energy trading and marketing operations, encompassing retail activities. This role involves identifying and evaluating potential risks, creating and applying quantitative models, and overseeing and reporting on risk exposures. Additionally, the position may include the development, deployment, and maintenance of risk management tools.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess the financial, credit, and collateral risks of complex integrated energy portfolios in fluctuating market conditions.
  • Perform financial analysis and modeling to assess the financial and risk profiles of potential transactions, along with their credit and collateral implications.
  • Assist in the origination and execution of new business ventures, including highly structured transactions, in a timely manner.
  • Create algorithms and predictive models to facilitate risk management decisions, often tailored to various market participant frameworks (e.g., ISOs).
  • Utilize problem-solving and analytical skills, along with emerging technologies, to enhance and automate diverse risk processes.
  • Compile various data sources to form a unified view for scenario analysis of current assets and prospective transactions.
  • Collaborate with senior risk managers to engage with portfolio managers and research analysts on matters such as risk limit usage, portfolio structuring, tail exposure, and forward-looking risk events.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the energy electric or gas sector.
  • Proficiency in Stochastic / Monte Carlo methods.
  • Strong quantitative capabilities, including expertise in modeling with Python and handling large datasets with complex data feeds.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree in a mathematics-oriented field (e.g., Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, etc.) is highly desirable.
  • Experience with data management and analytical tools (e.g., Power BI, SQL tools) is a significant advantage.
  • Programming skills in at least one scripting language besides Python (e.g., VBA, Matlab, R).
  • Familiarity with mathematical programming concepts and market risk modeling practices.

Additional Skills and Abilities:

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to produce precise work under rapidly changing priorities.
  • Capability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Experience with trading and risk management systems such as Aligne, Endur, etc., is beneficial.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid work setting with three days in the office and two days remote.
  • Trade floor/open office atmosphere with frequent collaboration across teams.
  • Majority of tasks performed on a personal computer in a seated position.
