Job Title: Administrative Assistant I

Job Summary:

The Department of Food & Agriculture is seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant I to support the Office of Farm-to-Fork. The successful candidate will provide administrative support to the Special Assistant, perform a variety of administrative tasks, and assist in developing criteria for evaluating resource use.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide administrative support to the Special Assistant, including preparing responses to requests for information and coordinating the transfer process for new staff.
  • Review and analyze proposed policy, procedures, and program changes, and prepare reports as needed.
  • Assist in interpreting Department and institution policies, and advise management on possible impact.
  • Supervise and review the work assignments of office staff, as needed.
  • Support the overall mission and immediate goals of the Office, and perform duties as necessary to provide better delivery of program services.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's or bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of administrative experience, preferably in a government or public sector setting.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple projects and tasks.
Working Conditions:

The duties of this job are performed indoors 80% of the time, with the incumbent teleworking at least 90% of the time. The incumbent is supplied with the necessary tools and supplies to perform the assigned duties.

Regular or recurring telework may occur as part of the incumbent's ongoing regular schedule in accordance with CDFA's Telework Policy. Occasional travel by private vehicle, State vehicle, or public transportation to various locations throughout the State may be required.

The incumbent must be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted during the course of work, work well under pressure, make appropriate decisions, and well-thought-out recommendations.

Special Requirements:
