Role Responsibilities

As a Cardiac Sonography Specialist, your daily activities will include:

  • Preparing and distributing test data to the relevant physicians for timely interpretation.
  • Maintaining communication with physicians regarding report statuses to ensure a swift turnaround.
  • Providing patient education in a clear and age-appropriate manner prior to procedures, utilizing excellent customer service skills.
  • Reviewing medical records to confirm physician orders before conducting examinations.
  • Conducting M-mode, 2-D echocardiograms, and cardiac Doppler procedures promptly upon request, applying age-appropriate techniques.
  • Executing Stress echo diagnostics and transesophageal echocardiograms as required.
  • Training and mentoring echo staff to ensure competency and high-quality performance.
  • Preparing preliminary reports for echocardiography studies to enhance patient care by reducing response times.
  • Assisting cardiologists in evaluating data and managing storage equipment for comparative studies.
  • Performing vascular studies, including venous and arterial assessments, if cross-trained.
  • Upholding a patient-centered approach in all activities and integrating customer service principles.
  • Coordinating the student intern program with educational institutions for diagnostic training, evaluating students, and maintaining records.
  • Ensuring equipment cleanliness between patients and proper covering with linens.
  • Managing inventory levels and ordering supplies as necessary.
  • Assisting in compliance with applicable laws and regulations set forth by relevant authorities.
  • Participating in on-call rotations for after-hours and weekend coverage.
  • Communicating effectively with physicians regarding reports, pending studies, and critical results requiring intervention.
  • Maintaining accurate patient records and logs, submitting monthly statistics for the vascular section.
  • Scheduling patients for diagnostic procedures and guiding outpatients on registration processes.
  • Submitting charges and credits for completed or canceled procedures as needed.
  • Conducting preventive maintenance on equipment and troubleshooting issues, assessing equipment for upgrades.
  • Adhering to infection control and safety protocols.
  • Conducting quality assurance and performance improvement for echocardiography studies.
  • Performing additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • Completion of an accredited Cardiovascular training program.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in echocardiography testing.
  • Proficiency in operating telecommunication devices, copiers, fax machines, computers, and printers.
  • Experience with echocardiographic and vascular ultrasound machines, PVR, various computer systems, and patient transport equipment.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Availability for on-call duties as required.
  • Strong foundational medical knowledge, particularly in cardiac ultrasound and cardiology.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently while managing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to engage in both intra- and inter-departmental activities and collaborate effectively within a team.

Licenses and Certifications

Required:

  • AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.

Preferred:

  • RCT registration or eligibility.
