Responsibilities:


Effectively monitors the Central Monitor for any alterations in cardiac rhythms, promptly reporting any changes to the designated nurse responsible for the patient.


Records and files the electrocardiogram rhythm tracings for each patient on telemetry at the start of the shift and whenever there is a modification in the patient's cardiac status.

Maintains a log of the patient's cardiac rhythm as observed during the shift.


Exhibits competence and sensitivity to patients' needs for comfort and safety while applying electrodes and managing the telemetry unit during inpatient care.

Confirms patient identity by name prior to electrode application and telemetry unit checks; verifies the patient's name and wristband for accuracy, ensuring proper identification.

Provides education to patients regarding the care and operation of the telemetry unit, utilizing knowledge appropriate to the age groups served. Communicates effectively and respectfully with patients.

Ensures that the central monitor and individual telemetry units are functioning correctly.

Prepares reports and statistics accurately and comprehensively, as required.

Completes weekly and monthly responsibilities punctually; regularly updates the Director and/or Charge Nurse on the status of ongoing projects.

Responds promptly to the placement of new patients on telemetry; anticipates patient needs and regularly checks on telemetry placements.

Identifies abnormal EKG readings and immediately informs the nurse in charge of the patient.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION:
High School diploma or equivalent; two years of college education preferred.

Successful completion of an accredited ECG Course is preferred.

WORK EXPERIENCE:
One year of experience in EKG testing is preferred.
