About the Role

The City of New York is seeking highly skilled and detail-oriented individuals to fill the position of Administrative Litigation Assistant within the Department of Social Services (DSS). As a key member of the Homeless Litigation and Program Counseling Unit (HLCPU), you will play a critical role in supporting the enforcement of client responsibility for the DHS shelter system and related litigation.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Unit with daily administrative needs, including coordinating, maintaining, and responding to administrative assignments and requests.
  • Support the investigative and litigation functions of the unit, working closely with Unit attorneys to collect, review, and analyze data for inclusion into responsive pleading and reports.
  • Monitor adherence to litigation deadlines, hearing and court appearances, reporting criteria, and post-decision compliance.
  • Track outcomes and results of judicial and administrative litigation, preparing and distributing periodic reports.
  • Conduct research and consult with program staff as needed to obtain responsive data and materials.
  • Prepare drafts of confidential correspondence, memoranda, drafts, final letters, and reports for the Deputy.
Requirements
  • A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and three years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, one year of which must have been in an administrative capacity or supervising staff performing clerical/administrative work of more than moderate difficulty.
  • Or an associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college and four years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
  • Or a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent approved by a State's department of education or a recognized accrediting organization and five years of satisfactory full-time progressively responsible clerical/administrative experience, including one year of the administrative supervisory experience described above.
