Position Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for the performance of the laboratory site, focusing on On Time Performance (OTP), Turnaround Time (TAT), and Quality metrics. This role ensures that samples are processed and analyzed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with relevant CAP and CLIA regulations. Key responsibilities include:
Core Responsibilities:
- Supervision of both technical and non-technical laboratory personnel.
- Management of budgetary allocations including materials, labor, and employee engagement.
- Regular communication with Sales and Leadership regarding laboratory operations.
- Providing clear guidance to staff on daily, weekly, and monthly tasks.
- Ensuring adherence to laboratory, safety, and corporate policies by all employees.
- Collaboration with HR to address employee-related concerns and disputes.
- Ensuring staff have the necessary resources to perform their roles effectively.
- Encouraging collaboration and sharing of best practices across all laboratory locations.
- Communicating any changes in protocols or company policies to technical staff.
- Documenting competency assessments of laboratory staff as directed by the Lab Director, in compliance with regulatory bodies.
- Maintaining compliance documentation in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning and maintenance logs.
- Working with Quality Analysts to develop and update the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual.
- Assisting in the training and competency assessment of laboratory personnel.
- Managing supply inventory, conducting monthly operational reviews, and ensuring equipment maintenance and calibration.
- Reviewing incident reports and compliance-related issues within the laboratory.
- Ongoing evaluation and adjustment of staffing and schedules to meet performance indicators and align with business goals.
- Strong understanding of laboratory procedures and quality controls to ensure accurate data reporting.
- Resource management through ADP, including approval of time-off requests and timecards.
- Maintaining competencies across all laboratory processes.
- Escalating issues as necessary to support both upstream and downstream stakeholders.
- Fostering a high-performance culture within the laboratory.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Master's Degree in a relevant scientific discipline is preferred.
- Comprehensive knowledge in hematology, coagulation, routine chemistry, and immunoassay.
- A minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience is required.
Skills and Competencies:
- In-depth knowledge of clinical laboratory services.
- Technical expertise to oversee laboratory operations.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently with a keen attention to detail.
- Strong problem-solving capabilities to implement effective solutions.
Certifications:
- Preferred certification as a Medical Technologist from AAB with a focus on Molecular Diagnostics or equivalent.
- Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License (CMSL) is preferred.
