Job Overview

Position Summary:

The Clinical Laboratory Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing site performance metrics, including On Time Performance (OTP), Turnaround Time (TAT), and Quality indicators. This role ensures that samples are processed and analyzed efficiently, accurately, and in compliance with relevant CAP and CLIA standards. Key responsibilities include:

Core Responsibilities:

  • Supervision of both technical and non-technical laboratory personnel.
  • Management of budgetary allocations for materials, supplies, labor, and employee engagement.
  • Maintaining open communication with Sales and Leadership regarding laboratory operations.
  • Providing clear guidance to staff regarding their daily, weekly, and monthly responsibilities.
  • Ensuring adherence to laboratory, safety, and organizational policies by all employees.
  • Collaborating with Human Resources to address any employee-related concerns or disputes.
  • Equipping staff with the necessary tools and resources to perform their duties effectively.
  • Sharing best practices and collaborating across all laboratory locations.
  • Communicating any changes in protocols or company policies to technical staff promptly.
  • Documenting competency assessments of laboratory personnel in compliance with regulatory bodies as directed by the Lab Director.
  • Maintaining compliance documentation in accordance with regulatory standards, including cleaning and maintenance logs.
  • Working with Quality Analysts to draft, update, and maintain the Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) manual.
  • Facilitating training and competency assessments for laboratory staff.
  • Overseeing supply management, monthly operational reviews, and adherence to quality management standards.
  • Monitoring and reviewing incident reports related to laboratory compliance.
  • Regularly assessing staffing needs and schedules to meet performance indicators and align with business objectives.
  • Ensuring a strong understanding of laboratory procedures and quality controls to guarantee accurate data reporting.
  • Managing resources through ADP, including approving time-off requests and timecards.
  • Maintaining proficiency in all laboratory processes.
  • Escalating issues as necessary to support both upstream and downstream customers.
  • Fostering a high-performance culture within the laboratory.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience:

  • Master's Degree in a relevant scientific discipline is preferred.
  • Comprehensive knowledge in hematology, coagulation, routine chemistry, and immunoassay techniques.
  • A minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • In-depth knowledge of clinical laboratory services.
  • Technical expertise to oversee laboratory operations effectively.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with a keen attention to detail.
  • Proficient problem-solving abilities to implement effective solutions.

Certifications:

  • Preferred Medical Technologist certification from AAB in Molecular Diagnostics or equivalent (AMT, ABB, etc.).
  • Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) or Clinical Microbiologist Scientist License (CMSL) is preferred.
