Overview:
Barnes & Noble Education, Inc. is on the lookout for a resourceful, driven, adaptable, and customer-oriented individual to join our team as an Inventory Control Supervisor. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of departmental and store operations to ensure exemplary customer service is provided to the academic and co-curricular community. You will be responsible for maintaining your designated area, ensuring it is well-merchandised and operationally efficient.

Key Responsibilities:
As an Inventory Control Supervisor, you will collaborate with the management team to support all store operations and departments. Your role will include direct oversight of one or more departments or specific operational functions. You will be expected to:

  • Assist in the daily management of the store alongside the Store Manager and Assistant Store Manager.
  • Act as the Manager-on-Duty, maintaining a thorough understanding of all store departments to provide daily support, direction, and guidance to both customers and team members, ensuring adherence to operational standards.
  • Utilize analytical skills and knowledge of the campus environment to effectively manage daily operations and make informed decisions.
  • Delegate tasks and provide focused direction to team members to manage and execute multiple projects, ensuring efficient workload execution.
  • Maintain a visible presence on the sales floor to greet customers, address inquiries, and assist with purchases of textbooks, merchandise, or services as needed.
  • Ensure the sales floor is visually appealing by organizing, tagging, and maintaining cleanliness of products and spaces within the store.
  • Assist with processing transactions involving cash, credit, or financial aid payments as required.
  • Full-time positions necessitate availability for at least 30 hours weekly throughout the year, with schedules subject to adjustment based on store needs.

Physical Requirements:
Candidates should be prepared for:

  • Frequent movement throughout the store to access various departments and products.
  • The ability to remain stationary for extended periods.
  • Regular lifting of merchandise.
  • Occasional reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and climbing ladders.

COVID-19 Considerations:
Our stores adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local guidelines regarding social distancing and sanitization. Depending on campus requirements, positions may necessitate confirmation of vaccination. The use of face masks may also be expected or mandated throughout the day while on campus.

Qualifications:
We seek candidates who possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a retail environment in a managerial or buying capacity, or completion of the Best Seller Program.
  • A high school diploma or GED.
  • Exceptional customer service skills to effectively match customers with products that meet their needs.
  • Basic reading, writing, and accounting skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • The flexibility to work a varied schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
