UPMC Life Changing Medicine is in search of a Healthcare Support Specialist to enhance our team.

Position Overview:

This role involves a variety of responsibilities that encompass both clinical and administrative functions. Candidates with prior experience in healthcare are preferred, but recent graduates and externs are also encouraged to apply.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with management to identify areas for enhancement in clinical and non-clinical operations, infection control protocols, and patient evaluations.
  • Demonstrate accountability and proficiency in all designated practice tasks.
  • Manage the acquisition of lab and imaging reports, hospital documentation, and referral details. Complete necessary forms and schedule patient appointments while verifying insurance and demographic information.
  • Conduct phlebotomy, EKGs, and basic laboratory tests. Assist physicians during procedures and accurately document patient information in medical records.
  • Facilitate regular meetings with staff to communicate procedural updates aimed at improving service quality and patient safety.
  • Oversee workflow and delegate tasks to other clinical personnel.
  • Act as the department's super user for electronic health record systems.
  • Respond to incoming calls and provide essential information, including patient education as required.
  • Support management in supervisory tasks and contribute to the development and implementation of departmental objectives and procedures. Mentor and train both new and existing staff members.
  • Organize patient flow and assist patients as needed, including walking, transferring, and preparing for examinations.
  • Ensure compliance with health regulations and maintain confidentiality regarding medical records and sensitive information.
  • Prepare and manage patient charts, ensuring all information is accurately completed and filed. Maintain cleanliness and organization of exam rooms and medical equipment.
  • Administer medications and vaccines under the supervision of a physician when appropriate.
  • Comply with all relevant regulatory standards and UPMC policies.

Qualifications:

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program or an equivalent healthcare program (LPN/RN/EMT) is preferred.
  • Certification from recognized medical assisting organizations is a plus.
  • A minimum of one year of patient care experience is required.
  • Basic computer skills and familiarity with medical terminology are essential.

Licensure and Certifications:

  • CPR certification is required within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is preferred.
  • Clearances as per regulatory requirements.
