Position Overview

Nemours Children's Health is in search of a Patient Care Technician to become a vital member of our dedicated team. This role involves working within our Day Medicine unit and is designed for full-time engagement, comprising 32 hours per week. The schedule includes varying shifts and days from Monday to Friday, encompassing both daytime and evening hours.

Key Responsibilities -
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment in designated areas, ensuring they meet established par levels.
  • Uphold a clean and safe environment within the patient care unit.
  • Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, and recreational activities, while providing additional care as directed.
  • Ensure accurate charging of all supplies used.
  • Coordinate with pharmacy, dietary, and other departments as instructed by the Registered Nurse.
  • Collect patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, etc.) with a focus on safety, comfort, and accuracy.
  • Utilize Hospital Information Systems for documenting vital signs and patient care activities as required.
  • Effectively communicate information among physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and others.
  • Transport patients and deliver reports, supplies, and other materials to various units or locations as necessary.
  • Professionally manage the front desk of the patient care unit, which includes answering phones, greeting patients, and handling mail and medical records.
  • Engage in departmental and hospital initiatives aimed at Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying service enhancement opportunities, and implementing appropriate actions.
  • Participate in educational programs within the unit, department, and hospital.
  • Regularly attend unit and departmental meetings.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in caring for patients across all age groups, including neonates, infants, toddlers, school-aged children, adolescents, and adults.
Qualifications -
  • Preferred minimum of 1 year of experience in patient care.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Ability to comprehend laboratory orders, computer information, and basic medical terminology.
  • Capable of obtaining specimens, including blood, from a primarily pediatric patient population that may be ill, handicapped, or otherwise restricted.
  • Current certification in American Heart Association BLS is required.
