Key Responsibilities -
- Maintain adequate supplies and equipment in designated areas, ensuring they meet established par levels.
- Uphold a clean and safe environment within the patient care unit.
- Assist patients with daily living activities such as bathing, feeding, and recreational activities, while providing additional care as directed.
- Ensure accurate charging of all supplies used.
- Coordinate with pharmacy, dietary, and other departments as instructed by the Registered Nurse.
- Collect patient specimens (blood, urine, stool, etc.) with a focus on safety, comfort, and accuracy.
- Utilize Hospital Information Systems for documenting vital signs and patient care activities as required.
- Effectively communicate information among physicians, nurses, laboratory staff, and others.
- Transport patients and deliver reports, supplies, and other materials to various units or locations as necessary.
- Professionally manage the front desk of the patient care unit, which includes answering phones, greeting patients, and handling mail and medical records.
- Engage in departmental and hospital initiatives aimed at Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying service enhancement opportunities, and implementing appropriate actions.
- Participate in educational programs within the unit, department, and hospital.
- Regularly attend unit and departmental meetings.
- Demonstrate proficiency in caring for patients across all age groups, including neonates, infants, toddlers, school-aged children, adolescents, and adults.
- Preferred minimum of 1 year of experience in patient care.
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Ability to comprehend laboratory orders, computer information, and basic medical terminology.
- Capable of obtaining specimens, including blood, from a primarily pediatric patient population that may be ill, handicapped, or otherwise restricted.
- Current certification in American Heart Association BLS is required.
