Role Definition:

The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily functions of the accounting department, including accounts payable, asset management, and financial reporting. This role involves conducting various cost accounting activities, analyzing financial records, assisting in budget preparation, and finalizing financial statements for the Foundation, Medical Service Corporation, and Hospital. The supervisor will also coordinate the annual financial audit with external auditors and ensure timely preparation of corporate tax returns in compliance with Federal and State regulations. Additionally, this position includes providing essential training and support to accounting staff to uphold compliance with hospital policies and accounting standards.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Ensure timely provision of audit schedules and balance sheet reconciliations to external auditors.
  2. Prepare federal and state tax returns for the organization and its subsidiaries.
  3. Exhibit strong leadership skills while integrating guest relation standards into daily operations.
  4. Analyze the organization’s income, expenses, and asset values, comparing them to prior periods, and recommend strategies for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
  5. Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate accounting functions and activities.
  6. Evaluate and enhance procedures to optimize accounting operations and improve workflow.
  7. Assist the Accounting Director in developing annual operating and capital budgets.
  8. Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in a hospital accounting environment as a staff accountant, with familiarity in computerized financial systems for accounts payable and asset management.
  • Physical Requirements: Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines. Must possess strong listening skills to engage in discussions amid varying noise levels. May require extended hours and occasional weekend work to achieve objectives. Prolonged sitting is necessary, along with occasional lifting of boxes.

Working Conditions: This position is primarily indoors, shielded from weather conditions, in a shared workspace that may be cramped. The ability to concentrate amid variable noise interruptions is essential, as is managing numerous customer inquiries on a daily basis.
