Role Definition:
The Accounting Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily functions within the accounting department, including accounts payable, asset management, and financial reporting. This role involves performing various cost accounting tasks, analyzing financial records, assisting in budget preparation, and generating financial statements for the Foundation, Medical Service Corporation, and Hospital. The supervisor will also coordinate the annual financial audit with external auditors and ensure timely preparation of corporate tax returns in compliance with Federal and State regulations. Additionally, this position includes providing essential training and development for accounting staff to uphold compliance with hospital policies and accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure timely provision of audit schedules and balance sheet reconciliations to external auditors.
- Prepare federal and state tax returns for the organization and its subsidiaries.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills while integrating guest relation standards into daily operations.
- Analyze the organization’s income, expenses, and capital asset values, comparing them to prior periods, and recommend strategies for cost reduction and revenue enhancement.
- Plan, direct, supervise, and coordinate accounting functions and activities.
- Evaluate existing procedures to enhance efficiency and reduce accounting operation costs.
- Assist the Accounting Director in preparing annual operating and capital budgets.
- Perform additional duties as assigned or requested.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience: A minimum of 5 years of experience in a hospital accounting environment as a staff accountant, with some familiarity with computerized financial systems in accounts payable and asset management.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work under pressure with multiple deadlines. Must be attentive to discussions amidst varying noise levels. May require working beyond standard hours and occasionally on weekends to achieve objectives. Prolonged sitting may be necessary, along with occasional lifting of boxes.
Working Conditions: This position is primarily indoors, shielded from weather conditions, in a shared workspace that may be cramped. The role requires the ability to focus amidst variable noise interruptions and manage numerous customer inquiries daily.
