Edgewater Technical Associates is looking for experienced professionals for the role of Senior Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer. This position is integral to the Paducah Gaseous Diffusion Plant (PGDP) Deactivation and Remediation (D&R) project.

Work Location: Flexible options available, with a preference for onsite engagement.
Citizenship Requirement: Must be a U.S. Citizen.

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 7 years of applicable experience, or a combination of education and experience.
  • At least 3 years of direct experience as a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer.
  • Thorough knowledge of relevant codes, regulations, and industry standards.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Familiarity with various engineering disciplines.
  • Possession of a DOE "L" clearance or the capability to obtain one.
Position Responsibilities
Under general oversight, the role encompasses a variety of NCS Engineering functions, including but not limited to:
  • Preparation of NCS Evaluations (NCSEs), NCS Determinations (NCSDs), and NCS Reports (NCSRs).
  • Conducting peer reviews of NCS documentation.
  • Utilizing SCALE software for the development of NCS documents, with a strong preference for candidates experienced in this area.
  • Focusing on the creation of Criticality Incredibility documents.
  • Conducting facility walkdowns to ensure compliance and assess project impacts.
  • Engaging in project engineering tasks, including monitoring progress and preparing necessary procedures.
  • Identifying and addressing project-related issues.
  • Performing feasibility studies and evaluating new technologies.
  • Conducting research to support design validation.
  • Assuming technical ownership of assigned NCS projects.
  • Providing subject matter expertise for specific projects.
  • Assisting in the preparation and facilitation of training.
  • Evaluating operational modifications for compliance with relevant standards and regulations.
  • Leading projects as assigned and collaborating with senior engineers.
  • Ensuring adherence to DOE regulations and standards.
  • Collaborating with other technical teams to gather necessary information for documentation.
  • Serving as a resource for junior team members.
  • Providing technical support to colleagues.
  • Performing complex tasks as required.
  • Supporting NCS operability evaluations as needed.
  • Preparing resolutions for problem reports.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
  • Maintaining a commitment to safety by adhering to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participating in safety initiatives.
Working Environment:
  • Work in an environmental restoration setting, which may involve exposure to hazardous materials if safety protocols are not followed.
  • Ability to wear protective equipment and perform physical tasks, including lifting and carrying.
  • Potential for working in conditions with high noise levels and radiation hazards.
  • Environmental factors may include extreme weather conditions.
  • May require operating a company vehicle, adhering to all safety regulations.
