Community Engagement Coordinator – Association of Academic Museums & Galleries

The Association of Academic Museums & Galleries is dedicated to fostering connections between artists, scholars, students, and the public through engaging artistic experiences.

Our organization curates a variety of exhibitions and public initiatives that span the breadth of art history, with a particular focus on contemporary practices.

We manage a diverse collection of over 5,000 artworks, including numerous pieces displayed in various venues.

On average, we facilitate 12 exhibitions, 70 educational visits, and 12 community programs each year.

Key Responsibilities:

Public Programs

  • Collaborate with leadership to design public programs that complement exhibitions through educational outreach and community engagement.
  • Organize artist discussions, academic lectures, panel discussions, gallery tours, workshops, and social gatherings.
  • Engage with faculty and educators to coordinate academic outreach and lead guided tours.
  • Involve community organizations and the public as active participants in museum activities.
  • Coordinate logistics for visiting artists and speakers, including travel and accommodations.
  • Maintain records of speaker agreements and program evaluations to enhance future initiatives.

Outreach and Marketing

  • Work with leadership to create an annual outreach strategy aimed at increasing visibility and engagement with targeted audiences.
  • Develop and edit marketing materials, ensuring alignment with curatorial content.
  • Manage public information resources, including online platforms and printed materials.
  • Serve as the media relations contact, collaborating with communications teams to generate press coverage.

Event Management

  • Maintain a comprehensive calendar of public events and programs.
  • Coordinate event logistics, including room reservations and equipment setup.
  • Facilitate the use of facilities by various groups and organizations.
  • Oversee the setup and breakdown of events, ensuring smooth operations.

Volunteer and Student Engagement

  • Act as the primary liaison for student organizations, fostering involvement and collaboration.
  • Develop and oversee a student docent program, providing training and support for student guides.

Visitor Services

  • Ensure clear communication of gallery hours, policies, and programs through effective signage.
  • Provide visitors with informational materials about exhibitions and programs.
  • Address visitor inquiries and feedback, ensuring a positive experience.

Qualifications:

  • Graduate degree in Art History, Museum Studies, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 1 year of professional experience in a museum or gallery setting.
  • Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • Experience working with diverse populations and fostering inclusive environments.
  • Proficient in digital tools and social media platforms.
