Job Summary

Point Loma Nazarene University is seeking qualified adjunct faculty members to teach graduate-level courses in the School of Education at the Bakersfield Regional Center. The successful candidate will have a strong background in education, a commitment to Christian higher education, and excellent teaching and leadership skills.

Responsibilities
  • Teach graduate-level courses in Teacher Preparation, Special Education, School Administration, Adult Education and Leadership, and Research Methods
  • Develop and implement curriculum that aligns with PLNU's mission and values
  • Assess student learning and provide feedback
  • Participate in departmental meetings and contribute to the development of the School of Education's vision and goals
Qualifications
  • Evidence of Christian commitment and active church involvement
  • Evidence of high moral and ethical standards and a willingness to participate in and contribute to an intentional university Christian community
  • Evidence of a minimum of five years of highly successful experience in K-12 settings
  • Knowledge of Common Core design, implementation, and assessment
  • Evidence of valid California credential
  • Proven expertise as a K-12 teacher/counselor/administrator working with diverse student populations
  • Evidence of strong leadership, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to model current instructional pedagogy and practices such as RTI, restorative justice, positive behavior intervention strategies, project-based learning
  • Proven ability, flexibility, and willingness to teach a range of evening classes
  • Willingness to significantly support the university's mission and the School of Education's vision and goals for teaching, learning, and spiritual formation
  • Ability to use the course learning management system (Canvas) and assessment program (TaskStream)
  • Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development
  • Evidence of active participation in professional educational organizations
Physical Requirements

The work is primarily sedentary and may require sitting for extended periods of time. Use of computer equipment: computer keyboard, mouse, and monitor. Vision to read documents, email, and other correspondence, and reports on paper and computer monitor. Hearing and speaking to communicate effectively with others in person and by phone. Will also stand, stoop, push, pull, and lift up to 10 lbs throughout the day.

Special Instructions

The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department. Please realize that there may not presently be an adjunct position available. When an opening becomes available for which you would be a good match, the department chair will be in contact with you for further dialogue, interviews, etc. Approved applicants will remain in the adjunct pool for the upcoming school year only. To be reconsidered for the following school year, applicants will need to reapply. If hired, official transcripts will be required from all undergraduate and graduate universities attended before a contract is issued.
