Job Summary

Objective
As an Instrumentation Engineer, you will be accountable for the installation, configuration, upkeep, and troubleshooting of both field and laboratory instrumentation utilized in our manufacturing facilities. This instrumentation may operate independently or be integrated with control systems. You will also support the design, programming, and specification of equipment, as well as the implementation of instrumentation and control hardware related to projects.
Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure adherence to relevant policies and procedures.
  • Utilize engineering expertise to guarantee that instrumentation and control system hardware in biologics manufacturing are correctly specified, installed, programmed, and functioning as intended. This includes regular evaluations of instrument performance for potential upgrades or replacements.
  • Diagnose and resolve analog/digital hardware issues related to process control systems and instrumentation, including distributed control systems (DCS) and programmable logic controllers (PLC). Comfortable working with both low (24Vdc) and high (120V, 480V) systems.
  • Assist calibration technicians in identifying instrument and hardware problems. Conduct new instrument setups and testing before initial calibration.
  • Interpret P&ID and troubleshoot electrical schematics effectively.
  • Familiarity with the setup and troubleshooting of VFD and/or Servo drives, particularly with Allen-Bradley systems, is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of bus protocols such as HART, Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet, Profibus, and Ethernet IP is beneficial.
  • Possess a working knowledge of analytical instrumentation, including High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC), Gas Chromatography (GC), Mass Spectrometry (MS), and Ultra-Violet Visible Spectroscopy (UV-Vis), as well as other industrial analytical tools used in biologics manufacturing (pH, Dissolved Oxygen, Temperature, Conductivity).
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to develop functional specifications for control programming on major equipment systems, including the design of process control systems. Must communicate, document, and schedule all work activities effectively.
  • Maintain instrumentation and control equipment in a validated environment, ensuring compliance in all GxP areas. Provide timely updates on job activities to management and relevant production, maintenance, and engineering personnel.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Associate Degree in an Engineering Discipline, or a minimum of 8-10 years of experience in an Industrial or Military Setting with Process Instrumentation (Pressure, Temperature, Weight, Analytical (pH, DO, Conductivity), Level, and UV).
  • ISA CCST Certification Level 1 or 2 is a plus.
  • Prior experience in the calibration of instrumentation (Pressure/Temperature/Flow/etc.) is preferred.
  • Knowledge of biologics manufacturing processes is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) such as Maximo is beneficial.
  • Strong computer skills and proficiency in various software applications for programming and configuring instrumentation.
  • Ability to manage tasks to meet strict timelines, with strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Understanding of validated systems, applicable engineering standards, and facility-specific software applications is preferred.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and foster a team-oriented environment.
