Job Summary

This position plays a critical role in supporting the City's efforts to prevent, prepare for, and respond to persons experiencing unsheltered homelessness. The successful candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating, and executing various strategies to address homelessness in the City of Minneapolis.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Communications and Reporting: Prepare and maintain reports related to the City's homeless response activities, including communications with key stakeholders.
  2. Street Outreach and Referrals: Perform street outreach work, interacting with persons experiencing unsheltered homelessness, and making referrals to housing and shelter services.
  3. Contract Management and Logistics: Assist in the management of contracts related to homelessness response strategies, including sanitation services, security services, and others. Provide logistical and financial support for the delivery of street outreach services.
  4. Stakeholder Engagement and Representation: Represent the City in meetings with key stakeholders, including elected officials, staff from partner organizations, community members, and people with lived experience of homelessness.
  5. Interdepartmental Coordination: Coordinate the response to unsheltered homelessness among city departments, including Health, CPED, MPD, Public Works, and others.
  6. Outreach Team Coordination: Coordinate the work of street outreach teams, ensuring that teams are covering different geographies, demographic population needs, and meeting housing goals.
  7. Data Analysis and Reporting: Collect and analyze data on homelessness, maintain dashboards, and prepare and present information related to data on unsheltered homelessness and street outreach outcomes.
  8. Community Engagement: Attend community events related to unsheltered homelessness and provide guidance and oversight for complex situations.
  9. Public Information and Education: Respond to requests for information and queries from the public, media outlets, Mayor's Office, City Council, residents, and community organizations.
Working Conditions

This position requires working in an office setting and in the field visiting encampments.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in social work, human services, mental health services, affordable housing, public policy, or a related field, and three to five years of experience working in homeless services or with people encountering homelessness.
