Role Summary:
The Cardiac Monitoring Specialist plays a crucial role in supporting nursing and medical personnel by monitoring cardiac rhythms via a central monitoring system. This position involves recognizing and reporting any significant changes in patient conditions while performing designated technical and clerical tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
A typical day for a Cardiac Monitoring Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health includes:
- Accurately setting up, placing, and maintaining telemetry monitoring for patients as directed, ensuring patients are familiar with the telemetry system. Identifying cardiac rhythms, obtaining, and documenting arrhythmia strips and trends with appropriate labels and interpretations. Reporting any changes in cardiac rhythms to the primary or charge nurse. Collaborating with the interdisciplinary team to review alarms, including MDs, nursing staff, and therapy personnel. Demonstrating effective communication skills with patients, families, and colleagues.
- Maintaining up-to-date records, including the Admission/Discharge Sheet, Telemetry Report Sheet, and EKG Log. Providing comprehensive reports to the incoming Telemetry Technician. Coordinating with the Charge Nurse and Primary Nurse regarding the initiation or discontinuation of telemetry monitoring. Assisting in the training and orientation of new Telemetry Technicians as needed. Performing administrative tasks as required by the Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse.
- Ensuring adequate inventory of supplies and maintaining the cleanliness of telemetry equipment, including transmitters. Keeping accurate maintenance logs and reporting any equipment malfunctions to the charge nurse or biomedical team.
- Completing additional duties and projects as assigned.
- Adhering to organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
1. High School diploma or equivalent, including successful completion of a cardiac rhythm course within three months of hire.
2. Proven training as a monitor technician or equivalent experience.
