Role Summary:
The Sleep Study Specialist is responsible for conducting comprehensive sleep studies and analyses, along with associated interventions, under the guidance of the Technical Director. This role also includes supervising and mentoring Polysomnographic Trainees.

Key Responsibilities:
A typical day for a Sleep Study Specialist at Hackensack Meridian Health involves:

1. **Patient Preparation:** Conduct mask fittings and implement therapeutic interventions such as CPAP and BIPAP. Prepare patients for titration and ensure they understand the process, documenting all necessary details for physician review. Maintain cleanliness and sanitation of all equipment post-use.
2. **Data Acquisition:** Review patient history and study protocols, ensuring accurate identification of patients. Apply electrodes and monitoring devices according to established guidelines, performing data acquisition while minimizing artifacts. Document observations and significant events throughout the study.
3. **Scoring and Reporting:** Score sleep/wake stages and clinical events according to AASM standards, generating precise reports for physician interpretation.
4. **Collaboration:** Work effectively with team members across departments, participating in meetings and seeking continuous learning opportunities. Maintain professionalism and commitment to team objectives.
5. **Safety Compliance:** Adhere to OSHA standards and infection control policies, ensuring a safe testing environment and being prepared for emergency procedures.
6. **Additional Duties:** Perform other responsibilities as assigned, while upholding organizational competencies and standards of behavior.

Qualifications:
Required:
1. High School diploma or equivalent; completion of a polysomnography program preferred.
2. Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Polysomnographic Trainee with documented competencies.
3. Familiarity with sleep and CPAP equipment.

Preferred:
1. College degree in a related field.

Licenses and Certifications:
1. Valid Polysomnography Technologist License.
2. AHA Basic Health Care Life Support HCP Certification.
