Personal Care Assistant

Cumberland River Behavioral Health, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Personal Care Assistant to join our team. As a Personal Care Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing support and care to individuals with mental illness, enabling them to live independently and promote integration into their community.
Key Responsibilities- Provide therapeutic training to promote independence and facilitate individual goals and objectives.
- Assist and support individuals with their personal care needs, including sanitation, household chores, laundry, meal preparation, and planning.
- Interact and involve individuals in routine household care and maintenance, promoting safety awareness and reporting any necessary repairs.
- Provide financial assistance and money skills training, as well as opportunities for fun activities and leisure choices.
- Assist with shopping needs and wants, and connect individuals with family and friends to build relationships.
- Provide behavioral support, be familiar with behavior intervention plans, and record data.
- Monitor individuals' health and provide opportunities for exercise and good health practices.
- Advocate for individuals' rights and needed services, and limit or discourage visitation of staff family and friends.
- Respect individuals' autonomy and initiate bonding processes, being honest, patient, and understanding.
- Know individuals' needs and preferences, use positive language, and be cautious with comments.
- Recognize incidents and document correctly, and prevent or report abuse, neglect, and exploitation.
- Accurately administer medication, provide information, and report medication errors.
- Schedule, transport, and arrange transportation for individuals, including doctor's appointments and leisure activities.
- Complete paperwork and documentation accurately and timely, writing staff notes and submitting service registers or pink tickets for billing.
- Demonstrate effective communication skills, initiative, and confidentiality, being dependable and punctual.
- Ensure a positive appearance and practice good communication with all staff involved with individuals.
- Use the phone professionally and respect all coworkers and individuals, understanding and carrying out instructions.
- Be a team player and form a team with coworkers, compromising when necessary.

- Knowledge of computers.
- Ability to exercise good judgment, tact, diplomacy, and compassion when problem-solving, handling conflict, or in crisis situations.
- Ability to complete record-keeping in a timely fashion.

- Ability to work well with people of all races, backgrounds, and needs.
- Ability to work as part of a comprehensive community mental health team and positively represent the agency in the community.
- Physically able to reach, push, pull, stoop, stand, walk, and lift up to 20 pounds.
- Possess a valid driver's license, maintain a safe driving record, and maintain the required minimum vehicle insurance amount for the State of Kentucky, if required for job performance.
- TB skin test assessment within 7 days of hire.
- Comply with agency policies and procedures.
- Complete training requirements within time frames.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works in outside weather conditions, may be off-site from normal office location or placed at a Residential Program.
The noise level in the work environment is mild to moderate.
Environmental Data and Job Hazards- Hours of work are structured 7.5 or 8.0 hour blocks of time but may be subject to irregular and/or flexible hours based on needs or demands.
- Position may require duties to include routine or reasonable anticipated tasks or procedures where there is a degree of actual or potential exposure to blood or other infectious materials.
- All staff are required to participate in yearly trainings regarding infection control and safety in the environment, including hazardous waste and blood-borne pathogens.
- All new staff must attend training regarding handling physical, verbal threats, acts of violence, or other escalating and potential dangerous situations, including when police need to be summoned.
