Community-Based Prevention Counselor

The Community-Based Prevention Counselor plays a vital role in delivering continuous individual and family support to young individuals and their families seeking assistance from the Center. This position involves conducting a thorough evaluation to identify challenges related to substance use, gambling issues, and other factors that may hinder healthy development in youth. Based on the assessment, a tailored Individualized Service Plan is crafted and executed to meet the specific goals of the youth. Typically, a Community-Based Counselor manages a caseload of 15-20 clients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Conducting Assessments and Intake Procedures
  • Providing Individual and Family Counseling Services
  • Evaluating substance use, gambling behaviors, and other risk factors
  • Implementing Crisis Intervention Strategies
  • Ensuring Referral Readiness and Coordination
  • Facilitating prevention counseling sessions, groups, and activities to enhance skill development
  • Advocating for Youth Interests
  • Leading Parent Support Groups
  • Maintaining Client Confidentiality
  • Engaging in Neighborhood and Community Outreach Initiatives
  • Keeping Accurate and Timely Case Records
  • Participating in Individual and Group Supervision
  • Attending Staff Meetings and Training Sessions
  • Providing Transportation for Clients as Necessary
  • Involvement in Community Committees, Coalitions, and Task Forces
  • Performing Additional Duties as Assigned
Qualifications:

A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in human services, education, or a related discipline, along with 2 years of relevant experience is required. A valid driver's license is essential. Preference will be given to candidates with a Master's Degree or advanced training in related fields.
