We are seeking a highly skilled and customer-focused Host/Hostess to join our team at Hello Betty Bethesda. As a Host/Hostess, you will be the first point of contact for our guests, providing a warm and welcoming experience that sets the tone for their dining experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Greet arriving customers and escort them to their tables, ensuring a seamless and efficient dining experience.
  • Assign sections to servers and notify them of new seats in their section to ensure prompt and proper attention to guests.
  • Process payments and count back change to guests, maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Verify the accuracy of all items on guest checks, confirming correct pricing, discounts, and method of payment.
  • Ensure that all charge vouchers are completely filled out and verified, including dates, charge amount, authorization number, and signature.
  • Elicit feedback from departing customers to improve the operation and increase customer satisfaction.
  • Distribute and account for all checks issued to servers for the shift, maintaining accurate written records.
  • Count and reconcile revenues received for the day, using a calculator and balancing to cash register reports.
  • Maintain a clean and attractive restaurant environment by assisting with vacuuming, sweeping, general cleaning, and sidework duties.
  • Check the proper set-up of tables and seating prior to opening and report any discrepancies to management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Previous Host/Hostess experience is a plus, with excellent customer service experience.
  • Must have high school graduate level mathematical aptitude, knowledge of standard cash handling procedures, and familiarity with computerized cash register systems.
  • Must have general knowledge of basic customer service skills, restaurant operations, and food service principles.
  • Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing in English, follow written and verbal instructions, and work on multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Must be able to use tact and understanding when dealing with customer service problems, including stressful and highly emotional situations.
  • Must be able to handle coins and writing utensils, grasp handles, push buttons, and carry dishes.
  • Must be able to lift and carry trays and bus tubs weighing up to 10lbs.
  • Must be able to stand throughout the entire shift and lift arms above head to retrieve objects from shelves.
  • Must have vision ability to read written communiques, computer screens, and print-outs, see colors, and survey the entire room in dimly lit conditions.
