Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Facilities Management Director to join our team at Story County, IA. As a key member of our facilities management team, you will be responsible for assisting in the direction of the management of county buildings and facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Work Order Management: Review, prioritize, and assign work orders to staff, ensuring that staff are provided with proper tools, equipment, and supplies, and monitor work orders to ensure completion in an efficient, effective, and timely manner.
  • Contractor Coordination: Coordinate with contractors to obtain estimates and schedule work, and monitor the work of contractors to ensure compliance with timelines, specifications, and other guidelines.
  • Staff Supervision: Train, assign, direct, supervise, evaluate, and discipline assigned personnel, and review and approve or deny leave requests.
  • Scheduling: Schedule work with other county departments to minimize disruptions and provide for the safety of staff and the general public.
  • Budget Development: Assist in the development of the annual department budget proposal.
  • Inventory Management: Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies, and place orders as needed.
  • Project Oversight: Meet with Director on a regular basis to provide information about ongoing and upcoming projects.
  • Emergency Response: Respond to after-hours emergency situations as needed.
Requirements
  • Knowledge and Experience: Knowledge of public facilities management principles and practices, building systems, facility codes and regulations, inventory management principles, personnel management principles, and budget management principles.
  • Skill Set: Skill in planning, reading and interpreting maps and drawings and specifications, coordinating the work of contractors, using a variety of hand and power tools, problem solving, interpersonal relations, and oral and written communication.
  • Education and Qualifications: Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a baccalaureate degree in a course of study related to the occupational field, and experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service.
