POSITION SUMMARY:

The Quality Assurance Inspector plays a crucial role in ensuring that all incoming, in-process, and outgoing materials comply with the quality standards set by BS&B Safety Systems, LLC and/or the client. This is a hands-on role that is vital to the manufacturing and quality control processes. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with various inspection and testing equipment and instruments, along with the ability to interpret detailed engineering drawings and specifications. Responsibilities include calibrating measuring instruments according to internal protocols and participating in quality system audits.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Conduct inspections of incoming components from both internal and external machining vendors, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
  • Examine certifications and test reports to confirm that customer requirements are fulfilled, and maintain accurate records of received materials.
  • Prepare Nonconformance Reports for any components that do not meet specifications and escalate to the QA Supervisor for necessary actions.
  • Assist shop supervisors with issues related to non-conformance, manufacturing, or documentation as needed.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams regarding manufacturing capabilities, special instructions, or testing requirements.
  • Calibrate gauges and QA instruments, maintaining thorough records of calibration activities.
  • Verify the integrity of manufactured components through inspections based on current specifications and utilizing appropriate QA instruments.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation related to materials and inspection results.
  • Coordinate inspection activities with external inspectors to ensure adherence to customer specifications.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES:

  • Perform other related tasks as assigned.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to learn and adapt to new equipment and methodologies.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Minimum of a Diploma or GED; a 2-year technical college degree or 4 years of inspection/test experience is preferred. Current certification from the American Society for Quality may substitute for formal education.

Experience: At least 3 years of experience in high-precision inspection of machined parts using tools such as Micrometers, Calipers, Height Gauges, and Optical Comparators. Experience with calibrating hand gauges and familiarity with metal fabrication and ASME standards is desirable. Experience in Aerospace or Nuclear components is a plus.

Knowledge: Proficient in reading and interpreting engineering drawings and documents. Must be capable of selecting the most effective measuring methods for inspecting machined components. Ability to evaluate certifications and declarations of conformity from vendors and make quick, accurate decisions regarding compliance with internal and customer standards. Strong mathematical skills and a practical approach to problem-solving are essential. Familiarity with Basic Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing concepts is required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position operates in a machine shop environment with variable noise levels. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is mandatory in specific areas. The QA office is situated within the machine shop, where conditions are generally quieter.
