Job Title: Academic Technology Specialist

At Duke University, we are seeking an experienced Academic Technology Specialist to join our team. This role will work closely with faculty and colleagues to design, develop, and implement innovative educational technologies that enhance the learning experience.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop course sites using Canvas LMS, ensuring seamless integration with faculty needs
  • Collaborate with faculty to understand online course plans, including necessary materials and teaching approaches
  • Consult with faculty on course content display, ensuring effective use of multimedia tools and presentation software
  • Train faculty and staff on LMS functions and site maintenance, promoting self-sufficiency and efficiency
  • Assist with student and faculty Canvas LMS guides/documentation, ensuring easy access to resources
  • Implement and manage course site templates, streamlining the development process
  • Collaborate with the technical team to test, document, and demonstrate new academic software applications and tools
  • Collaborate with faculty, students, and staff to test new learning management systems, ensuring seamless integration
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree with additional experience in instructional design and Canvas LMS Administration
  • Instructional design expertise with insights about technology trends and solutions
  • Experience with web authoring tools, multimedia tools, presentation software, streaming video in an academic environment
  • Knowledge of learning management systems and other tools widely-used for teaching
  • Self-starter with minimal supervision, able to work in a collaborative team environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with ability to communicate in both technical and non-technical terms
  • Problem-solver with ability to establish good working relationships with a wide range of people within an academic community
  • Evidence of ability to generate faculty enthusiasm for and engagement in the use of new technologies for teaching
