Position Overview:
This role is situated within the Office of Air and Radiation, specifically in the Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards, Outreach and Information Division, National Air Data Group.


About the Office of Air and Radiation:

This position requires physical presence at the designated duty station on a regular basis. However, the EPA provides options for remote work and flexible scheduling as outlined in the Benefits section.


Key Responsibilities:

As an entry-level IT Specialist, your primary duties will include:

  • Assisting senior IT Specialists in the design and development of efficient applications utilizing reusable components.
  • Maintaining existing software systems and ensuring compliance with information security policies.
  • Coordinating with program staff to address program needs and adhere to industry standards for software applications.

As you progress in your career, you may be eligible for promotions to more complex responsibilities.


Employment Conditions:

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and submit a resume along with required documentation. This position is classified as High Risk, necessitating a background investigation.

All pre-employment security conditions must be satisfied before an official employment offer can be made.

If selected, candidates may be required to complete a one-year probationary period.


Qualifications:

To qualify for the GS-09 level, candidates must possess:

  • At least one year of full-time experience equivalent to the GS-07 level, which includes assisting higher-graded specialists in gathering customer requirements and demonstrating understanding through written and visual communication.
  • Alternatively, a master's degree or two years of progressively higher-level graduate education in a relevant field.

Experience can include both paid and unpaid roles, including volunteer work, which is valuable for building relevant competencies.


Educational Requirements:

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • A bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, engineering, information science, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated IT-related experience covering competencies such as attention to detail, customer service, oral communication, and problem-solving.

Additional Information:

New federal employees typically start at the first step of the applicable grade range. The EPA participates in E-Verify, which allows for electronic verification of employment eligibility.

This position is part of the bargaining unit.
