Position Overview:
Join our Exceptional Care Team as aSurgical Technologist in the Operating Room Department
- The Surgical Technologist, under direct supervision, carries out a variety of responsibilities in the Operating Room with potential rotation to other Surgical Services areas.
- Aids in surgical procedures by supplying the surgeon with the necessary instruments, materials, and/or equipment while ensuring maximum efficiency and optimal maintenance of sterile technique.
- Prepares the operating room for surgical interventions by verifying the case cart and preference sheet, and aseptically arranging instruments, materials, and/or equipment.
- Establishes and maintains a sterile environment, assisting during procedures by providing the surgical team with essential instruments, sponges, sutures, and medications.
- Exhibits knowledge and skills in surgical asepsis by effectively maintaining and assisting within the sterile field.
- Participates in the counts of sponges, needles, and instruments.
- Performs tasks under the guidance of the registered nurse circulator.
- Communicates relevant information to the circulating nurse to ensure continuity of patient care.
- At the conclusion of the surgical procedure, assists in cleaning the room and removing soiled materials and waste from the operating room.
- Demonstrates the ability to function across various surgical specialties and carries out assignments with minimal assistance.
- Transports laboratory specimens, surgical instruments, and/or supplies as required.
- May also serve in the capacity of a Surgical Service assistant.
- As a patient advocate, alerts the appropriate healthcare team member of any observed changes in the patient's condition to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree in Surgical Technology or equivalent
- Specialized training in the Armed Forces or equivalent experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience as a Surgical Technologist
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist is preferred.
- BLS Certification
