Role Overview: This position involves collaboration with product management teams across various business units to identify and document technical specifications for new solutions, significant features, products, systems, and platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Developing and presenting conceptual alternatives to stakeholders, effectively communicating the benefits and drawbacks of each to achieve consensus on the optimal choice.
  • Working alongside development teams to ensure practical designs and mitigate technical risks prior to the commencement of development; assisting in problem-solving and updating design documentation throughout the development process.
  • Possessing in-depth knowledge of lighting controls and Acuity products, addressing the most intricate issues, and collaborating with other experts to formulate and revise design guidelines.
  • Monitoring the intellectual property landscape, new products, emerging technologies, and best practices, assessing their relevance to the lighting sector; understanding key competitors' offerings and distinguishing features.
  • Supporting senior leadership in strategic product planning.
  • Exhibiting creative, strategic, and analytical thinking; executing tasks with a significant degree of autonomy.
  • Leading through influence; providing guidance and mentorship to junior staff; may also serve as a lead or first-level supervisor.

Essential Functions:

  • Collaborating with product management teams to develop and refine concepts for new solutions, major features, products, systems, and platforms. | 20%
  • Providing System Architecture documentation to development teams to facilitate detailed design. | 40%
  • Evaluating and generating intellectual property related to technical projects to prevent infringement and secure protections. | 10%
  • Conducting peer reviews of System Architecture and other technical documentation produced by others. | 10%
  • Maintaining expert knowledge of Acuity products, systems, and processes. | 10%
  • Staying informed about competitive products and industry best practices. | 10%

Qualifications:

8 to 12 years of experience in engineering leadership or system architecture is required, along with a Bachelor's Degree or equivalent. Experience in system architecture and development related to lighting control, drivers, or a related industry is essential.

Proficiency in working with protocols, networks, and technical standards is necessary. Familiarity with modern software, firmware, and hardware development best practices and associated technologies is expected.

Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial, as is the ability to lead through influence, collaborate effectively, and mentor technical leaders.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's Degree or equivalent and experience in system architecture and development involving lighting control are advantageous. Experience in designing protocols, networks, and technical standards, as well as delivering solutions that incorporate software, firmware, and hardware using contemporary technologies, is preferred.

Contributions to published intellectual property related to lighting control or adjacent fields are a plus.

Travel Requirements: 1-20%
