Job Overview:

As a key member of our laboratory team, you will adhere to established protocols for specimen management and analytical testing, ensuring accurate reporting and meticulous record-keeping of patient test outcomes. You will be responsible for maintaining documentation that verifies proficiency testing samples are processed in alignment with patient specimens. Your role will involve analyzing specimens utilizing validated testing methodologies as outlined in departmental standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Your responsibilities will include reviewing and validating test results while complying with regulatory standards such as CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA. You will be expected to follow safety protocols as per the outlined guidelines.

Quality Control and Compliance:
It is essential to adhere to the laboratory's quality assurance policies, meticulously documenting all quality control activities, calibrations, and maintenance performed on testing equipment. You will follow established procedures for addressing any test systems that fall outside acceptable performance levels.

In your role, you will identify and rectify issues that may compromise test accuracy or reporting. Should problems arise, you will document corrective actions taken and notify the senior technologist or supervisor promptly. You will also follow departmental protocols for reporting critical results to clients and address inquiries from customers or laboratory personnel as needed.

Record Maintenance:
Maintaining comprehensive records of all testing conducted in the laboratory is crucial. You will ensure that the laboratory environment is organized and that all reagents and test kits are properly labeled with received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates where applicable.

Training and Development:
Engagement in ongoing training is vital. You will participate in departmental meetings and additional educational sessions, as well as safety training. Familiarity with the safety manual and the proper use of safety equipment is required. You may also be involved in inspections by regulatory agencies.

Qualifications:
A solid understanding of laboratory testing is essential for this position. Proficiency in computer systems and adaptability to various software applications are required. Knowledge of quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) processes, along with familiarity with all laboratory areas, is expected.

Educational Background:
A Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology is preferred, or a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology, or an Associate's degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology. Candidates educated outside the United States must provide a detailed credential evaluation from a recognized organization. Candidates educated in the United States must submit an original transcript.

The ideal candidate should possess or be eligible for national certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) from a recognized certifying body.

Experience:
A minimum of one year of clinical experience in high-complexity testing is preferred. Candidates with a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or Biology should have at least one year of clinical laboratory experience in complex testing. National and state licensure as required.

Skills and Attributes:
Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively are necessary. Interaction with various departments and clients may be required, making good customer service skills essential. Maintaining patient confidentiality is of utmost importance.
