The School Safety Specialist will be responsible for ensuring the safety and security of all students, faculty, staff, and visitors on school campuses. This individual will patrol campus areas, maintain order and discipline, and prevent crime. They will also collaborate with school administrators and other personnel to support positive and safe school climates.
Key Responsibilities- Patrol Campus Areas: Regularly patrol school campuses, both inside and outside, to maintain order and discipline and prevent crime.
- Collaborate with School Administrators: Work with school administrators and other personnel to support positive and safe school climates.
- Encourage Positive Behavior: Encourage students to use positive verbal and behavioral alternatives.
- Investigate Student Violations: Investigate student violations of school policies and refer students having problems to administrative staff.
- Detain Students: Detain students violating the law until a law enforcement officer arrives.
- Prevent Unauthorized Access: Prevent unauthorized persons from entering and leaving school grounds.
- Report Criminal Activity: Report criminal activity to the appropriate school official or authority.
- Deter Disruptive Behavior: Deter disruptive pupil behavior.
- Attend Work Daily: Attend work daily and be engaged and on task.
- Adhere to Dress Code: Adhere to the school security officer dress code.
- Submit Reports: Submit a written report of daily activities and written incident reports.
- Attend Training: Attend training as required.
- Model Appropriate Behavior: Model appropriate behavior for students to emulate.
- Ability to Follow Directions: Ability to follow oral and written directions.
- Ability to Work Well with People: Ability to work well with people.
- Desire to Work with School-Aged Youth: A strong desire to work with school-aged youth, professional educators, law enforcement personnel, school staff, and parents.
- Age Requirement: Be 21 years of age or older.
- Education Requirement: Have a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Experience Requirement: One (1) year of relevant security or school/public contact service experience preferred; or any equivalent combination of experience and training which would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
