Position Summary:

The Buyer II role is essential for acquiring goods and services for our facility, adhering to established purchasing policies and authority levels. The ideal candidate will effectively align purchasing activities with business operations to meet customer expectations and support GPI's strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver professional purchasing services to internal stakeholders through effective communication with various departments.
  • Assess and process requisitions for materials and contractors to ensure consistent supply and timely delivery.
  • Verify that purchased goods and services meet quality standards and specifications.
  • Draft and publish bid specifications, evaluate responses, and negotiate contracts based on supplier performance.
  • Enhance and maintain a robust supplier network.
  • Identify and recommend new suppliers based on their quality, service, and pricing competitiveness.
  • Implement corporate sourcing strategies and agreements.
  • Monitor and report on supplier performance metrics.
  • Explore opportunities to optimize the purchasing power of the mill and the company.
  • Ensure compliance with financial and procurement policies.

Qualifications:

Experience:

Minimum of five years of procurement experience in a heavy manufacturing environment, including bidding, negotiations, and contract administration.

Skills:

Strong written and verbal communication skills are crucial for success. Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook is required. Experience with SAP or similar ERP systems is essential. Demonstrated leadership capabilities are also necessary.

Education:

A BA or BS degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Finance, or Business Administration is preferred.

Work Schedule:

This position typically follows an 8-hour schedule from Monday to Friday, with the possibility of additional hours, including weekends, based on operational needs.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to sit or stand for extended periods, lift up to 20 lbs occasionally, and read from computer screens or other devices. Safety gear such as steel-toe shoes and safety glasses is required in manufacturing areas.
