Senior Purchasing Specialist

A well-established Paper Manufacturing company is seeking a Strategic Senior Buyer with strong Procurement or Purchasing experience, ideally from a Paper or Packaging background, to join their growing team. This Senior Purchasing Specialist role offers a clear growth path to a Purchasing or Procurement Manager position and will eventually lead a team of Buyers. The Senior Buyer will be responsible for procuring both direct and indirect materials essential for the operation of the paper mill. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced Buyer, Category Manager, or Procurement Specialist to join a well-established team and quickly advance into a leadership role.

Key Responsibilities

  • Execute purchase orders for all required materials, including raw materials, MRO, and capital equipment to support daily operations of the paper mill.
  • Seek out cost savings opportunities, review contracts with Corporate legal team, and develop purchasing strategies.
  • Ensure timely delivery of materials by tracking orders and following up with suppliers.
  • Adjust orders as needed to meet fluctuating production demands.
  • Communicate daily with suppliers to confirm product availability, lead times, and delivery schedules.
  • Resolve any issues related to order discrepancies, late deliveries, or material quality.
  • Maintain updated supplier information and performance records.
  • Work closely with production, operations, and finance teams to meet material needs and ensure efficient workflow.
  • Address and resolve day-to-day issues related to material shortages, order inaccuracies, and supplier performance.

Key Qualifications

  • 4 year college degree
  • 3+ years in Purchasing, Materials Management, Procurement, or related Paper Mill experience
  • Industrial/manufacturing experience required.
  • SAP Business Software/JDE Knowledge preferred.
  • Leadership skills and ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Previous Paper Mill experience extremely preferred
