Job Overview

We are in search of a skilled Cost Estimator to enhance our operations in Frederick, Maryland. The selected candidate will conduct comprehensive labor and material assessments to assist Senior Estimators and RGM's in delivering precise estimates of overall project expenses and timelines, while clearly outlining the scope of work, including inclusions, exclusions, and qualifications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Independently manage and finalize project estimates within designated timelines and priorities.
  • Execute takeoffs for labor and materials utilizing Planswift software.
  • Request pricing from vendors by submitting material lists.
  • Prepare cost sheets for review by Senior Estimators and RGM.
  • Draft project-specific proposal letters detailing the scope of work and total job costs.
  • Address design challenges and propose value engineering alternatives as necessary.
  • Compile turnover packages and collaborate with the pre-construction team to effectively communicate bid scope, discrepancies, and strategies.
  • Enhance job knowledge through participation in educational programs.

Required Qualifications

  • Quick learning ability.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Analytical mindset to reduce costs without compromising quality.
  • Familiarity with lumber and sheathing grades and types.
  • Understanding of various construction classifications (Type 3 & Type 5).
  • Proficient decision-making skills.
  • Strong documentation capabilities.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Experience in the construction sector.
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.

Work Environment

This role operates on a full-time schedule from Monday to Friday, with potential for extended hours and weekend work to fulfill project deadlines and client requirements. The position primarily involves office tasks, with occasional site visits and travel.

Physical Requirements

The role may necessitate prolonged periods of sitting and occasional lifting of items up to 25 pounds.
