Position Overview

The Leonardo DRS AIS Signal Solutions sector is in search of a Senior Project Engineer to spearhead engineering execution on extensive, intricate project initiatives, ensuring adherence to Program timelines and financial plans with minimal oversight. The Senior Project Engineer is responsible for formulating and managing program execution strategies, technical performance benchmarks, and, in collaboration with Program Managers/Schedulers, assists in the development and management of budgets and timelines. This role involves addressing challenges that hinder program advancement, enabling the engineering team to focus on their designated tasks. Additionally, the Senior Project Engineer will engage in new business ventures, including proposal preparation, bid submissions, and the creation of basis of estimates (BOEs).

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead all engineering activities for complex projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant delivery.
  • Guarantee design adherence to all project specifications.
  • Analyze customer requirements and lead a project team to create designs that effectively meet these needs, with cost considerations as a critical design factor.
  • Provide insights on budget, costs, and schedules for design tasks.
  • Maintain clear communication (both written and verbal) with manufacturing, supply chain, program management, and clients as necessary.
  • Play a significant role in preparing complex and high-stakes proposals.
  • Collaborate with technical management, professionals, technicians, and support staff to coordinate and advise on technical activities and progress.
  • Lead assigned project teams.
  • Promote, communicate, and uphold the mission, values, and culture of the organization.
  • Participate in relevant engineering, customer, or business meetings.
  • Mentor and guide junior engineers.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Establish and oversee a technical baseline, including requirements management and decomposition using tools like DOORS or Cognition Cockpit.
  • Monitor engineering performance, ensuring immediate resolution of issues and prompt implementation of corrective actions and recovery strategies.
  • Act as an Earned Value Management System (EVMS) Control Account Manager (CAM) for a project or a significant program component.
  • Support multidisciplinary program reviews and presentations across various development phases, certification, and production readiness with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Facilitate stand-up meetings, retrospectives, sprints, release planning, and delivery of project artifacts.
  • Lead and/or support RF performance analysis and trades based on customer CONOPS and market demands.
  • Prepare and conduct technical and independent reviews (IPBRs, SRRs, PDRs, CDRs, TRRs, PRRs, etc.).
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in engineering or a related technical field with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Expertise in technologies and domain knowledge.
  • Proficient in multiple engineering disciplines.
  • Ability to independently lead a team of engineers to complete complex projects.
  • Strong customer relations, negotiation skills, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing costs, schedules, and technical responsibilities for complex electronic subsystems with significant RF, Digital, and/or Software components.
  • Experience as an Integration, Verification & Validation (IV&V) Lead or Technical Lead.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Power BI and Dashboard.
  • Knowledge of Agile, DevOps, Scrum, and Failure Reporting and Corrective Action Systems (FRACAS).
  • Previous experience managing engineering teams with 5 or more direct reports is advantageous.
