Position Summary:

We are currently seeking a Materials Engineer to join our Advanced Technologies division in Lynchburg, VA. This role is integral to our research and development efforts, focusing on innovative nuclear reactor designs and advanced propulsion systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identify suitable materials for specific applications based on performance criteria and manufacturing readiness.
  • Assess material performance in representative environments and determine necessary testing to confirm expected outcomes.
  • Support supplier evaluations and contribute to the development of material specifications.
  • Maintain a comprehensive database of material properties to assist the design team.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including nuclear, mechanical, and electrical engineers.
  • Work with testing organizations to conduct material testing campaigns.

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Nuclear, Materials, Mechanical, or a related field) is required.
  • Strong expertise in materials science, particularly in the processing, structure, and performance of ceramic materials.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • U.S. citizenship is mandatory, with no dual citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with the performance of ceramics, metals, or composites in high-temperature applications.
  • Knowledge of material degradation in corrosive, irradiative, or thermal environments.

Compensation:

The expected salary range for this position is between $[[cust_salaryMin]] and $[[cust_salaryMax]] per year, based on local market factors and individual qualifications. The total compensation package may also include additional elements such as annual cash incentives and a comprehensive benefits package.
